A Visit to the Farm

Autumn is a wonderful time to visit a local farm with your students, family, or on your own. Apples, raspberries, and pumpkins are some of the fresh produce available, cider, pies, donuts and dried flowers tend to be for sale, corn mazes and hay rides entertain everyone. Local farms are the places to be this time of year.

Here are a few farms in or near Sullivan County that you might want to visit this October. Some are included on the websites listed below, but others are known about by word of mouth.

Riverview Farm - Plainfield

This local farm has everything - hayrides (on weekends), a cornmaze and pumpkin patch, pick your own apples, raspberries, and flowers, and sometimes ice cream with maple sugar crumbles. They are also open to group tours and events.

This farm has heirloom apples (usually great for cider making), pick your own apples, raspberries, and pumpkins. They host public and private events - check out the Harvest Fair on October 16th. It looks like they used to host school groups, but are taking a break due to Covid.

Crazy H Farm - Claremont

This farm hosts tours and school programs and has tractor, horse, and sleigh rides in season. They also have a summer program for kids and give horse riding lessons. They grow fruits and vegetables, though I'm not sure they have a pumpkin patch.

Patch Orchard - Lebanon

This farm has pick your own apples and a corn maze as well as a farm stand full of local produce.

Other local farms may host schools or class groups too. Reach out to them and ask and see what they have to offer!
